First things first
We’re always here to help. When you need to make a claim, our team will look after all the details so you can focus on getting your life back to normal.
How to make a property claim
- Contact the police (for theft or vandalism) or fire department as needed.
- Keep a copy of the police/fire report for your records.
- Contact our 24-hour emergency line to report your claim: 1-800-607-2424 or 1-888-875-8088 (Quebec).
- Tell us about the incident in as much detail as possible, and provide a list of the items that were stolen or damaged, including (if applicable):
- Detailed description of the item
- Make and model number, if known
- When and where the item was purchased
- Approximate purchase cost
- Proof of ownership, if possible (e.g., receipt, photo, warranty registration)
- If repairs are required, and with your permission, we’ll then contact one of our approved contractors in your area so they can get started right away — no appraisals or estimates required.
- If you'd like to use your own contractor, we'll provide them with your coverage information and answer any questions they may have. A claims representative will then complete an assessment of the damage, which you can take to your preferred contractor.
- If repairs are not an option or your stolen property cannot be recovered, one of our claims representatives will help you in processing your claim for a cash settlement.
- If your home is not liveable, make alternate living arrangements. Ask your broker or claims adjuster for details about your coverage for additional incurred living expenses such as hotel and meal costs.
